AFL 2021 LIVE updates: Dogs lead Eagles in empty Optus Stadium; O’Brien flies as Hawks beat Giants

Tim O’Brien flew high but it was Dylan Moore’s poise in front of goal which has spearheaded Hawthorn to arguably their best win of 2021 beating the Giants by 18 points.

It will be seen by some as a missed opportunity for the Giants who roared into the lead in the opening term but couldn’t maintain the rage as the Hawks lifted and then took their chances late on with Moore kicking two of his four goals in the last term.

O’Brien took a flying mark in the second term which will join an already overflowing field for mark of the year but what might stick around longer within this Hawks group is the ability of lesser-knowns like Moore and Jai Newcombe to stand tall under pressure with both huge when the game was on the line.

Tom Mitchell had 40 possessions and Lachie Whitfield had 32 possessions.

Shaun Burgoyne came on as medical sub in the final term and should be fit and firing for his historic 400th next weekend.
