The Powerball prize pool has once again experienced significant growth, surging to an impressive $875 million, establishing itself as one of the most substantial amounts in the game’s extensive chronicles.

Following the drawing on Wednesday evening, no participants managed to match all six winning numbers: 23, 35, 45, 66, and 67, accompanied by a Powerball number of 20.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s drawing, the forthcoming jackpot is poised to claim the esteemed status of being the third-highest in the history of the lottery, trailing only the colossal $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot triumphed last year and the extraordinary $1.586 billion Powerball prize claimed in 2016.

Should an individual successfully match all six numbers and emerge as the victor in Saturday’s drawing, they will be presented with a choice regarding the coveted $875 million reward. They can opt to receive the prize in annual installments or select the one-time lump sum of $441.9 million, which will be subject to applicable taxes.

According to game officials, an astonishing streak of 36 consecutive Powerball drawings has transpired without a fortunate individual claiming the grand prize. The most recent instance of a Powerball jackpot being won occurred on April 19 when a ticket purchased in Ohio matched the winning numbers and secured the impressive sum of $252.6 million.

Research findings indicate that approximately 60% of the funds generated by U.S. state lotteries are allocated directly to fortunate winners, while the remaining portion is retained by the states after disbursing prize money and covering specific expenses, such as advertising costs. However, in the case of larger lotteries like Mega Millions and Powerball, half of the ticket revenue contributes to the lucrative prize pool of the respective game.

Powerball jackpot, a widely played lottery, encompasses 45 states along with Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Notably, lottery tickets are not sold in five states: Alabama, Utah, Alaska, Hawaii, and Nevada.
