Love Island’s Anna McEvoy and boyfriend test positive to COVID-19 on Thailand holiday

Love Island Australia‘s Anna McEvoy and her boyfriend Michael Staples have tested positive to COVID-19 while holidaying in Thailand.

McEvoy, 29, initially took to her Instagram Story yesterday to reveal their getaway had become one led by “panic and confusion” as she tested positive to the virus.

Michael — who did test positive at first only to have authorities email him saying he was actually negative, meaning he would be subject to different isolation rules to McEvoy — at that time was negative. This morning, however, he tested positive on a rapid antigen test.

“Michael is currently having a meltdown,” an emotional McEvoy told her followers yesterday. “He has been on the phone all day trying to get answers about his results.”

McEvoy said yesterday she was having a difficult time when it came to her emotions, as her moods were “up and down,” but she was trying to remain positive.

“The thing we are most concerned about is if Michael is never going to test positive. If he has to go and do 14 days isolation if he leaves me,” McEvoy said.

“We are assuming we can be together. But if I at some point get taken to the hospital…. if they say that we could be in Thailand for a month…”

McEvoy said if the couple had to stay in Thailand for a month, it would be “very expensive” for them as they would need to pay for a hotel and flights.

“If they tell him his 14 days isolations starts, we could be in Thailand for like a month, which is very scary and extremely expensive. I can’t go there,” she said, also explaining that Staples “could be getting [COVID-19] soon” but it was too early to tell then.

She also described the language barrier as being a problem, as well as the fact hospitals are already busy with COVID-19 patients.

“It’s difficult when you’re in a different country as there’s a language barrier. Everyone has been nice… but there has been some miscommunications in regards to what is going on,” McEvoy said.

“Mainly because I think the hospitals are full and rules are if you have COVID-19 you go to hospital so they don’t know what to do with us.”

She also said that the night before, she had a panic attack and was struggling with her mental health, saying the couple were “confused and stressed.”

This morning, however, McEvoy revealed Staples had tested positive, and the couple were overjoyed they wouldn’t be separated. Watch her Instagram Story at the top of the page.

“Michael has tested positive to COVID-19,” McEvoy said.

“The hotel called us and they have found space in a new hospital hotel for us, so I don’t have to go to hospital now, which, guys, I can’t tell you how relieved I am.”

The reality star said this morning, she and Staples were going to head to the hospital hotel together, and that McEvoy, who said she has “no symptoms,” should have “about seven more days” of isolation, but it depends on medical advice and the doctor’s discretion.

McEvoy then shared a clip of the couple dancing to Pharrell Williams‘ hit ‘Happy’ with the caption, “When we found out I wouldn’t have to go [to the] hospital or be separated,” before reassuring her followers Staples is in “good spirits” despite having a fever the night before.

McEvoy won Season 2 of Love Island Australia with then-boyfriend Josh Packham.
