Batgirl set photos reveal Leslie Grace’s Barbara Gordon wearing high-tech goggles on her batsuit, showing she’s got some resources in the film.
A new set photo from Batgirl reveals Barbara Gordon’s batsuit goggles. Batgirl stars Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, the daughter of Commissioner Gordon (played by J.K. Simmons), who takes up the mantle in order to fight crime in Gotham City. The film is being directed by Bad Boys For Life director, Adil El Arbi, and Bilall Fallah, from a script by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey, The Flash).
Batgirl will also star Brendan Fraser as the villain Firefly, as well as Michael Keaton, who returns to the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in what is expected to be a mentor-like role. Keaton is also reprising the role for Andy Muschietti’s The Flash, which also opens this year. Batgirl is currently set as an HBO Max original film, which will be the first new DCEU feature made exclusively for the streamer.
In the latest set photo from Batgirl (via Batgirl Film News on Twitter), the character is seen wearing a pair of high-tech goggles, which appear to have subtle red lights on the side of both lenses. The goggles suggest that Batgirl is operating with a better budget than a teenager who’s cobbling things together in a cave. This also suggests that Batgirl could potentially be funded by Batman, although that remains to be proven. Now that the costume is out of the bag officially, and Grace is being spotted all over Glasgow as filming continues, there seems to be a new Batgirl reveal almost every day until the filmmakers take it into the studio. Check out the set photo below:
Grace recently starred in the adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In The Heights, which was her first major film role. She is a notable Latin Grammy Award-nominated singer as well, but has since shifted her focus to a different kind of performing, this time as a superhero. It’s unknown if Grace is contracted for multiple Batgirl films (and/or appearances), but the hype for her portrayal is big, especially since this will be the first true-to-form standalone, live-action Batgirl feature.
Grace looks great in the Batgirl costume, which strongly resembles the DC New 52 purple costume, with some variations. It makes sense that Batgirl would have goggles, or any gadget for that matter, as it’s a staple trope for the Bat-family. It’s likely that the goggles won’t be the only form of tech that Batgirl will carry, with many hoping to see her on her signature bat-cycle from the comics as well. With set photos rolling in left and right, it’s likely that fans will get a trove of new peeks before Batgirl is complete, which should help the hype machine for it even more.
