Frank Grillo, known for Captain America and The Purge franchises, joins the new werewolf horror action film Year 2 from director Steven C. Miller.
Actor Frank Grillo, who has become a prominent genre star in recent years, will be headlining the new werewolf horror action film Year 2. Grillo most recently appeared in Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, and starred in the high octane fan-favorite Boss Level movie. Year 2 is being directed by filmmaker Steven C. Miller, who has established a notable action film resume that includes movies such as Escape Plan 2: Hades, which starred Sylvester Stallone and Dave Bautista. Meanwhile, the film is being penned by Matthew Kennedy, who is most known for his 2020 film Inheritance, starring Lily Collins and Simon Pegg.
According to Screen Daily, Grillo has joined Year 2 after successful turns in multiple franchise installments of The Purge and Marvel Studios’ Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War. Designing and building the werewolf creatures for Year 2 is Amalgamated Dynamics’ Alec Gillis, whose special effects work has earned Oscar nominations. Gillis’ recent work includes Godzilla vs. Kong and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Pre-production and creature builds are now underway, and the film is scheduled for a May 2022 production start in Puerto Rico.
In Year 2, Grillo will play scientist Wesley Marshall, who is racing against time one year after a Supermoon has triggered a latent gene in humans that turns people into werewolves when they enter moonlight. Now, the Supermoon has returned, and Marshall must find a cure. When his sister-in-law and niece face a wolf onslaught of werewolves attacking their home, he must decide whether to save the world or save his family.
