Game Of Thrones: The Most Likable Characters, According to Reddit

Warning: The article contains depiction of violence from Game of Thrones clips.

Jon Snow spinoff has recently been announced to be in early production, exciting Game of Thrones fans over the prospect of the continuation of this epic storyline. It could focus on Jon’s whereabouts since being banished Beyond the Wall and his relationship with the Free Folk.

As the former King in the North and Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, Jon Snow isn’t the only fan-favorite character fans couldn’t get enough of. Though some characters, like Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, and Tyrion Lannister, have often been at the top of the list of favored characters, there are several others that fans found particularly likable. Reddit users chose these Game of Thrones characters – both main and side – as their top choices for likable characters.

Davos Seaworth

Many fans consider Davos Seaworth to be one of the best side characters in Game of Thrones. Though he made a mistake following Stannis Baratheon as long as he did, he owned up to his mistakes. Not only was he an honest man, but he proved how loyal he was to those he chose to follow.

Reddit user GregThePrettyGoodGuy mentioned his favorite character, saying, “Ser Davos, for being a genuinely good man.” There are a lot of great characters in this series, but very few of them had a honest, moral demeanor.

Tywin Lannister

Though he is often considered a villain, Tywin is also one deserving of the throne due to his wits. Though he was cruel to his children, especially Tyrion, and was arrogant due to all the power and money he possessed, he is also one of the most strategical, making him fit to rule.

Reddit user WoodhAquatics mentioned how Tywin is the “most imposing presence on screen.” He may not be the most lovable, but he’s one of the most impressive characters.

Brienne Of Tarth

Brienne of Tarth is one of the most heroic characters in Game of Thrones. She is known for being loyal to those she’s sworn to and never letting greed and power cloud her ability to always put honor first.

Reddit user Dancemallorydance said, “Brienne is really such a gem!” This comment sums up the audience’s view of the knight. Though she’s not perfect, Brienne’s dedication to being an honorable knight was both heartwarming and impressive.

Cersei Lannister

Lena Headey as Cersei in Game of Thrones

It may be shocking that so many fans favor Cersei Lannister, but it’s her evil nature that attracts them. There’s no doubt she was evil and cruel, but she is also an interesting character who knew what she wanted and didn’t let people deter her.

Reddit user Previous_Call_7215 said, “Gets 0 respect throughout the show, but everyone fears her. Can talk her way out of any situation.” An evil she may be, but many fans also recognize she was a formidable force and was, in some ways, an inspiration for taking up against the patriarchy.

Varys served as an advisor for multiple rulers. While he is sometimes depicted as a conniving and sneaky person, his intentions were always for the good of the realm. He is one of the fans’ favorite characters because he was more concerned about the people than those who had power.

Reddit user Ralphy97 said, “He was the only character who TRULY only served for the good of the realm. He never tried to be a “hero” about it, either. Every move he made was cautious, thought out, and well-informed.” Though he was executed for betraying Daenerys, he was acting for the concern of the people and not what he would get out of it.

Daenerys Targaryen

Daenerys Targaryen and the Iron Throne

Daenerys is one of the most controversial characters, mainly due to her portrayal in the last couple of seasons. While she was a powerful and determined woman, as she came closer to getting her throne, she became crueler and less concerned with the people. Nevertheless, in her earlier seasons, her ability to defend people with lesser power and free people from slavery showed her noble acts that explained why she was deserving and beloved as the queen.

Reddit user Previous_Call_7215 said, “An amazing character screwed over by seasons 7 and 8. Kind, but knows when to remove someone from her sight/advisory.” Many fans that still adore her character felt her change in the last couple of seasons was too far of a jump from her original portrayal.

Jon Snow

Kit Harington as Jon Snow in Game of Thrones

Jon Snow is one of the most beloved characters throughout this whole series. While the audience didn’t agree with every judgment he made, he always made decisions that concerned the good of his people and what he believed they would want.

One Reddit user put it simply by saying, “Jon Snow is legend.” Not only does he have an interesting and exciting storyline, but he was a genuinely good person that fans could whole-heartedly root for.

The Hound

The Hound Game of Thrones

The Hound, AKA Ser Sandor Clegane, is one of the more complex characters in the series. He isn’t the most lovable nor the most honorable, but he tried hard to do good things while also struggling with the reality that he needed to keep himself alive.

Reddit user Xylara said, “The Hound is a personal favorite. The moment he held back Sansa, from pushing Joffrey off the walkway, gets me every time. He knew life was shades of gray, not black and white.” The Hound did some despicable things himself, but he showed genuine sorrow for his actions and fought to protect those he thought deserved it.

Arya Stark

Arya has one of the best character arcs in Game of Thrones, bringing fans on a journey of self-discovery, revenge, and murder. While she wasn’t always the strongest fighter, she was certainly one of the most determined.

Reddit user said, “She only wanted to avenge everyone she loved, setting out on a quest to kill those who wronged them, and thus, wronged her.” While other members of the Stark family wanted to avenge their family, Arya’s character was based on her quest for revenge and justice.

Tyrion Lannister

Tyrion Lannister is arguable the most popular character in the entire series, usually making the top three people fans’ favorites. Audiences love Tyrion because he is an imperfect character, but he’s proven to be the most resourceful, strategic, and intelligent.

Reddit user Extreme_Ninja-69 said, “He is the most popular and impactful in all the story arcs,” and then they go on to point out Tyrion’s influence on major characters like Daenerys, Jon, and Cersei.
