Ghostbusters: Afterlife Star Joins The Cast Of Madame Web
Celeste O’Connor, who played the character Lucky in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, has joined the cast of Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off movie Madame Web.
Celeste O’Connor, who played the character Lucky in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, joins the cast of Sony Pictures’ upcoming Spider-Man spin-off film Madame Web. Starring Dakota Johnson as the title character, Madame Web will take place in the same universe as 2018’s Venom, its 2021 sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and 2022’s Morbius. While not much is known about the specifics of the upcoming movie’s plot, the title character has been a well-known thorn in Spider-Man’s side in Marvel comics since 1980.
Deadline reports that O’Connor has been cast in the upcoming film. As of now, it has not been revealed who they will be playing. The young actor’s previous credits include Irreplaceable You (2018), Freaky (2020), and The In-Between (2022).
Madame Web will be directed by S. J. Clarkson, who is known for helming episodes of Orange Is the New Black, Succession, and Marvel’s Jessica Jones. Also confirmed to appear in the film is Sydney Sweeney of Euphoria fame. The screenplay is being written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, who also wrote Morbius.
So far, Sony’s track record with its Spider-Man Universe hasn’t been great. Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and Morbius were all critically panned, though the Venom movies were still major box office successes. But with Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter looking to take the franchise in a new direction, they could be setting up a new era for Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.
