HomePod mini Colors: Newest Options & When You Can Buy

After only being available in White and Space Gray, Apple is expanding the choice of colors that its HomePod mini smart speaker can be purchased in.

Joining the existing Space Gray and White versions, Apple has added three new colors for buyers of a HomePod mini to choose from. Alongside the new colorways for its small smart speaker, Apple also recently introduced its M1-powered MacBook Pro laptops and the new AirPods 3 earbuds. The former is the most noteworthy update to the MacBook Pro lineup in years, thanks to Apple’s new in-house processors, the M1 Pro and M1 Max.

‘Unleashed’ was Apple’s second big hardware event in as many months following the ‘California Streaming’ event in September where the company unveiled its iPhone 13 lineup. At the same event, Apple also launched its latest iPad lineup with improved displays and a faster processor, along with a number of other upgrades. However, the much-rumored AirPods 3 were missing-in-action at that event, something that has now been addressed by the company.

The HomePod mini will soon be available in Yellow, Orange, and Blue, alongside the White and Space Gray models that were already available. Priced at $99, the new color options will become available starting in November, according to Apple, and just in time for the holiday shopping season. The devices retain the same form-factor and hardware, with the only difference being the new colorways. The HomePod mini will also be compatible with Apple Music’s new Siri-focused Voice Plan that’s priced at $4.99 per month. As for the new colors, they all look exiting, vibrant, and more dynamic than the existing options, so buyers will be able to choose one that best suits their style or home décor.

No Changes Other Than The New Colors

The bright new colors for the HomePod mini is part of Apple’s newfound focus on personalized aesthetics to appeal to a broader audience. The company has been launching a wide range of color options for iPhone over the past few years after originally sticking to tried-and-tested options like white, black, and gray. The latest iPhone lineup, for example, is available in several colors, including midnight, starlight, pink, blue, and (PRODUCT) RED for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini, while the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max models are being offered in graphite, silver, gold, and sierra blue. There is, however, no price difference between the variants based on color.

The HomePod mini runs on an Apple S5 chip which the company claims optimizes loudness, adjusts the dynamic range and controls the movement of the driver and passive radiators in real time. Apple also added lossless audio support to the HomePod and HomePod mini earlier this year as part of the rolling out of HomePod Software 15, available alongside iOS 15. Also earlier this year, Apple’s smart speaker lineup gained new ultra-wideband support, although the feature is really only of benefit to those with an iPhone 11, 12, or 13.
