How To View Your Health Checklist On iPhone

Apple offers health-related features on both iPhone and Apple Watch, and users can review a health checklist showing them what features are set up.

Apple provides users with an abundance of health-related features across its products and services and has a health checklist in the Health app that shows them what features are available, what they do and whether they are enabled. Nearly every product or software released by the company includes a new or updated health feature. CEO Tim Cook has gone on record saying he believes health is Apple’s greatest contribution. This is evidenced by the announcements of iOS 16 and watchOS 9, which include various health and fitness features to better inform users of their wellness. For example, the iPhone can track medications, and the Apple Watch can better measure unique forms of activity, providing a more well-rounded picture of a user’s health.

Though the company maintains that its health features are not a replacement for professional medical care and advisement, it’s impossible to ignore how its products have helped real people stay healthy. It’s hard to say precisely how many lives the Apple Watch has saved, but the device has been confirmed to have saved at least dozens in the United States and likely more worldwide and unreported. The watch is powerful enough to save lives through atrial fibrillation warnings, an electrocardiogram sensor and emergency SOS notifications. But the features only make a difference if they are enabled, and a health checklist shows a consolidated view of the available health features and whether they are set up.

To view the health checklist on an Apple iPhone, open the Health app, which is depicted by a white icon with a red heart. Make sure that the Health app is either opened to the ‘Summary’ or ‘Browse’ tabs, located at the bottom left or right of the screen, respectively. Then, tap the user’s account icon at the top right of the screen, which is usually the same icon as the user’s iCloud account image. If the icon isn’t shown, try scrolling to the top of the ‘Summary’ or ‘Browse’ pages. A page will open with the user’s name at the top, along with a list of settings that the user can change. A second block of items labeled ‘Features’ will list ‘Health Checklist’ at the top. Tap on that tab to view a checklist of all the features compatible with a user’s iCloud account.

What Health Features Are Offered?

Underneath the health checklist, a line of smaller print will state to which devices the settings below will apply. This will be the iPhone currently being used, as well as any Apple Watches paired to the iPhone. There are three sections of health-related features within the health checklist. First, items in the ‘Needs Review’ section require additional updates to maximize their benefits and will be listed at the top of the screen. Next, the ‘Inactive’ section shows the features that have not yet been set up. Finally, the ‘Active’ section displays the health-related features currently enabled and what settings or limitations may apply.

One of the more valuable features shown in the health checklist is the Medical ID, which gives first responders information about the wearer in an emergency, including identifiable information and any medical issues that may pertain to the device’s owner. In the health checklist, users can view whether the Medical ID is set up for iPhone, Apple Watch or both. More importantly, it’ll show when the user’s Medical ID was last updated. It is critical to keep Medical ID updated so that first responders and medical professionals have the latest information, but it’s easy to forget after it has already been set up. With the health checklist on iPhone, it is simple to periodically review a user’s health data and make the appropriate changes.
