OnePlus 9RT & OnePlus Buds Z2: What To Know & Where You Can Buy

OnePlus 9 RT appears to be a fairly minor upgrade, unlike the OnePlus Buds Z2 earbuds that come with ANC and much longer battery life as well.

OnePlus has added a couple of new devices to its portfolio — the OnePlus 9RT and the OnePlus Buds Z2 noise-canceling earbuds. Rumors about the OnePlus 9RT had been circulating for some time and some of the key OnePlus Buds Z2 specs made their way online weeks in advance. However, a few of those leaks, such as the SoC of choice for the OnePlus 9RT, have been proved wrong following the official launch.

OnePlus may have started off with just a single ‘One’ smartphone, but a lot has changed since then. Nowadays, the company offers a range of smartphone models, with some designed for release in specific markets. This is in addition to other products, such as accessories, a smartwatch, earbuds, and even smart TVs. However, the company’s smartphones are still at the heart of its product portfolio.

Before delving into the specs and upgrades, it is worth getting the availability out of the way first. At the moment, the OnePlus 9RT is only available in China and will likely remain exclusive to its home market for the near future. There are speculations about an India launch in the coming weeks (where it is poised to succeed the OnePlus 9R), a phone that was also limited to India and China. As for the OnePlus Buds Z2, the earbuds are currently only available to pre-order in China, but will likely be released in more markets as well, similar to their predecessor.

Minor Updates For OnePlus 9RT, An ANC Jump For OnePlus Buds Z2

The OnePlus 9RT’s design looks closer to the OnePlus 9 than the OnePlus 9R it succeeds. It offers a 6.62-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 600Hz touch sampling rate. Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 888 SoC powers the device along with 8/12 GB of RAM and 128/256 GB of onboard storage. There’s a 4,500 mAh capacity battery with support for 65W fast charging. The new phone also features a 50-megapixel primary camera backed by the Sony IMX766 sensor borrowed from the OnePlus 9. The other two cameras are a downgrade though, as the ultra-wide snapper users a 16-megapixel snapper, while the macro camera is a paltry 2-megapixel shooter. Selfie duties are handled by a 16-megapixel front camera. On the software side, the new phone runs ColorOS 12 that’s built on the merged codebase with OnePlus’ OxygenOS skin. The phone comes in black, silver, and cyan green colors, and starts at CNY 3,299 (roughly $510 based on current conversion rates).

The OnePlus Buds Z2 look identical to the first-gen OnePlus Buds Z earbuds, but they come with a huge upgrade in the form of Active Noise Cancelation. The ANC supports noise reduction up to a peak depth of 40dB, while audio output is handled by 11mm dynamic drivers. The news earbuds are listed to last up to 38 hours with ANC turned off and when using the case, which is a huge improvement over the promised 20-hour battery life of the original OnePlus Buds Z. With noise cancelation enabled, the number drops to 27 hours with the charging case, which is still an impressive gain. The IP55-rated earbuds also pack three mics and come in white and black colors. The asking price for the OnePlus Buds Z2 in China has been set at CNY 499, which translates to a very competitive $77 based on current conversion rates.
