In Pokémon GO, players will battle Team Rocket leader Arlo’s revamped team of primarily Dragon-, Psychic-, and Steel-type Shadow Pokémon.
In Pokémon GO, players will face Arlo, a Team GO Rocket leader. Arlo, along with the other leaders, Cliff and Sierra, must be defeated if players hope to challenge the Team GO Rocket boss, Giovanni, and his Legendary Shadow Pokémon. Members of Team GO Rocket frequently switch their teams of Pokémon to keep players coming back, and for July 2022, Arlo has a lineup featuring Dragon-, Psychic-, and Steel-types.
To find Arlo, players should first complete their Rocket Radar by defeating six Team Rocket grunts, which can be found guarding some Pokéstops. Once players have their Rocket Radar complete and equipped, the Team Rocket leaders in Pokémon GO will begin appearing at Pokéstops and in hot air balloons that fly overhead. Players will need to defeat the three leaders and collect the three pieces of the Super Rocket Radar if they hope to challenge Giovanni. Once players find Arlo, they will need to select their team and prepare for a battle against his three Shadow Pokémon.
Arlo will open the fight with the Grass-Psychic-type Pokémon Exeggcute. Because of its typing, Exeggcute is weak to Bug-, Dark-, Fire-, Flying-, Ghost-, Ice-, and Poison-type attacks. Accordingly, effective counters include Yanmega, Heracross, or Pinsirwith the moves Bug Bite, X-Scissor, and Bug Buzz, Reshiram with the moveset of Fire Fang and Overheat, and Darmanitan, or Mamoswine with the moves Ice Fang and Avalanche. Players should avoid bringing Pokémon that know Electric-, Fighting-, Grass,- Ground-, Psychic-, or Water-type moves because Exeggcute in Pokémon GO will resist them.
Pokémon GO: Beating Arlo’s Second and Final Pokémon
For his second Pokémon, Arlo will use either Alolan Exeggutor, Dragonite, or Salamence. Because all three of these options are weak to Ice- and Dragon-type moves, players can still be prepared with an effective counter. For instance, Darmanitan with Ice Fang and Avalanche, Mamoswine with the moves Powder Snow and Avalanche, or Giratina with the moves Dragon Breath and Dragon Claw will be effective against all three of Arlo’s second Pokémon. However, players should avoid bringing Pokémon that know Ground-type moves because Dragonite and Salamence are entirely immune to them while Alolan Exeggutor resists them.
Arlo’s third and final Pokémon will be the most difficult to defeat, and players may face either Scizor, Gardevoir, or Steelix in Pokémon GO. While all three Pokémon do not have a common weakness, Steelix and Scizor are Steel-type and share a weakness to Fire-type moves. Additionally, because Scizor is Bug-Steel-type, its only weakness is Fire. Accordingly, players should consider bringing Pokémon such as Charizard or Blaziken equipped with moves like Fire Spin and Blast Burn. On the other hand, players should avoid bringing Pokémon with Poison-type moves since Scizor is immune to them.
Because Gardevoir is a Fairy-Psychic-type, players should avoid Fighting, Psychic, and Dragon-type moves and instead prioritize Poison-, Steel-, and Ghost-type attacks. Effective counters for Gardevoir include Chandelure with moves like Hex and Shadow Ball or Dialga with moves like Metal Claw and Iron Head. Finally, Steelix is immune to Poison and Electric-type attacks and weak to Fighting-, Fire-, Ground- and Water-type moves. Accordingly, effective counters include Excadrill with the moveset Mud Shot and Drill Run or Conkeldurr in Pokémon GO equipped with the moves Counter and Dynamic Punch.
Pokémon GO is available now on iOS and Android.
