A sneak peek for The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season 2 reveals newest housewife Jennie Nguyen’s fascinating immigration story.
A sneak peek of the upcoming season of The Real Housewives Of Salt Lake City reveals the fascinating immigration story of its newest housewife, Jennie Nguyen. After a stellar first season, RHOSLC is one of the favorite new installments of the Bravo franchise, with a dynamic cast of personalities. As the premiere date of season 2 quickly approaches, new trailers and clips are being dropped every day.
Until now, little was known about the 45-year-old newcomer. Jennie was born in Vietnam, then she moved with her family to the United States when she was 7. She became a housewife after selling her medical spa so she could have more time to raise her three children. Lisa Barlow introduced her to the group, and when Bravo released the taglines for season 2, viewers got the sense that Jennie had no problem speaking her mind. She didn’t seem worried about asking difficult questions either, even if it caused some friction in the group.
A sneak peek for RHOSLC’s upcoming season, released by E! News, revealed the fascinating story behind Jennie’s departure from Vietnam. In a short clip, Jennie shared that she was living in the communist country in the middle of wartime, and she left her homeland in a boat. Not long at sea, her family was captured by a band of Thai pirates. After the abduction, the family eventually escaped to a refugee camp and remained there for three years. When a Christian church decided to sponsor the family, the Nguyens crossed the Pacific and moved to Long Beach, California. With a smile, Jennie ended the story, expressing that this was how she made it to America.
In the clip, Jennie shared the tale with fan-favorite Lisa’s son. Lisa met Jennie because their sons were friends at the same private school. Since then, the two moms formed a friendship as well and have known each other for over a decade. After Jennie’s story concluded in the clip, she pointed at Jack and said, “You guys don’t know what poor is.” She then encouraged him to be grateful for everything he had.
Many fans are excited to see how Jennie navigates the strange world of Salt Lake City. Each housewife has differing opinions about the city’s unspoken rules. Lisa seems to thrive on them and appreciates the strong emphasis on the Mormon faith. Heather Gay has a different perspective, claiming the culture is too restrictive. Mary Cosby is a pastor of a Pentecostal church, which is very distinct from the Mormons. Whitney Rose exposes the city’s contradictions. (Despite its religious presence, Salt Lake City apparently has a flourishing swingers community.) And last but not least, Jen Shah hovers above it all, unencumbered by anyone’s rules but her own.
Where the new castmate falls on the spectrum is anyone’s guess. Bravo has released little about Jennie’s religious or moral beliefs. On The Real Housewives Of Salt Lake City, such beliefs are crucial to one’s social standing. Perhaps the 45-year-old will shake up the old dynamics from season 1. If she can survive the terrifying journey of her past, she’s more than capable of surviving a cocktail party in Utah.
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City premieres Sunday, September 12 at 9pm on Bravo.
