Scarlett Johansson sets the record straight on ‘absurd’ rumour she had ‘sex in an elevator’

Scarlett Johansson has spoken out about the “absurd” rumour that had plagued her career in recent years.

The 37-year-old actress set the record straight during an appearance on the 9 to 5ish podcast, putting an end to long-standing whispers she had “sex in an elevator”. Listen above.

“There was a rumour that went around for a very long time,” she told hosts Carly Zakin and Danielle Weisberg on the April 12 episode. “That was a story that followed me for a long time. But I always thought that was outrageous.”

“I was always thinking to myself, ‘That would be tough. It’s a very short period, the logistics of that seem so unappealing to me,'” she added.

Johansson said that the foundation the rumour sits on does not hold up as, for starters, she’s “terrified” to do the wrong thing. And as a private person, she would never put herself in that scenario.

“I’m a person who’s terrified of being caught doing something I’m not supposed to be doing. So that made the story even that much more absurd to me,” she said.

Indeed, Johannson is a very private person. The actress kept both her pregnancies under wraps — she shares seven-year-old daughter Rose with ex-husband Romain Dauriac and has an eight-month-old son, Cosmo, with current husband Colin Jost — and she mainly did so because people are so judgemental.

“I’ve been so protective of both pregnancies, not wanting to feel scrutinised in the public eye,” she told Vanity Fair last year.

“I wanted to be able to have my own feelings about my changing body without other people also telling me how they saw me, whether it was positive or negative.”
