The Dallas Cowboys are enjoying the final weeks of the offseason’s “dead period” before heading to Oxnard, California, for the start of training camp.

While everyone waits for the players to return to the field after a brief hiatus, boredom seems to be setting in, leading to some outlandish rumors. As is often the case, America’s Team is at the center of the most sensational ones.

One rumor suggested Dak Prescott is “not 100 percent” and recently underwent an MRI. However, a new rumor makes the Dak discourse seem minor in comparison.

According to FOX Sports 1 host Craig Carton, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones might be selling the team. Carton claims Jones could be preparing to sell the Cowboys to a group of investors from Saudi Arabia.

“I think they’re going to sell the team,” Carton said. “I would not be surprised if we start hearing rumblings that Jerry Jones is going after hedge funds in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi, trying to find a suitor to give him the largest check ever given to the owner of a North American sports franchise.”

Let’s be clear: there is zero evidence to support Carton’s claims.

Carton, like other talking heads on FOX Sports 1, is known for making outrageous statements. Yet, the network continues to give him a platform, subjecting us to these speculative tales.

Jerry Jones, Dallas Cowboys

Do you really believe Jerry Jones, who wants full control of every move the team makes, would sell the most valuable sports franchise in North America? Do you think a man with his ego would walk away, despite positioning his family in prominent roles within the organization?

Not a chance.

Carton can say whatever he wants, but this only reminds us that training camp can’t arrive soon enough. I’d rather discuss contract extensions than speculate about the Cowboys being owned by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Dallas Cowboys will head to the West Coast on Tuesday, July 23, before the opening press conference the following day. The team’s first training camp practice is Thursday, July 25.
