Sundance Institute Board Chair Ebs Burnough praised Vicente, stating, “She has been a true advocate for independent storytellers, and I know she will continue to positively impact this community.”
Vicente led the Sundance Institute through some of its most challenging times during the pandemic, overseeing the transition to a virtual festival and later facilitating its return as a hybrid event.
Amanda Kelso, a board member, has been appointed as the interim CEO, effective from April. Vicente will continue to offer guidance until June. Kelso brings with her 25 years of experience in communications and technology, having previously served as the managing director of Google Creative Lab.
“I believe in the power of Sundance and its ongoing impact in nurturing our mission-based work,” Kelso stated.
The Sundance Institute conducts year-round programs for emerging artists, including directing and screenwriting labs, as well as other artist programs that have played a significant role in supporting filmmakers such as Ryan Coogler, Chloé Zhao, the Daniels, Paul Thomas Anderson, Quentin Tarantino, Darren Aronofsky, and Nia DaCosta early in their careers.
