Window Blinds:
Health Canada announced a recall on Tuesday for various window blinds, with over 85,000 units sold in Canada, due to the risk of strangulation for children. The shades by Elite Window Fashions, including All Roller, High-Lite, Sheer Horizontal, and Roman blinds sold with ChainGuards and P-Clips, are affected. These blinds, available in different colors and sizes, do not comply with Canada’s Corded Window Coverings regulations. Concerns arise from looped cords posing a strangulation hazard and small parts potentially causing choking. The company sold these blinds in Canada between July 2022 and March 2024. No incidents or injuries have been reported as of March 5. Health Canada advises discontinuing use and contacting the company for replacement parts.
Unauthorized Health Products:
On Wednesday, Health Canada issued an alert regarding unauthorized health products seized from the online retailer “UU Zone” based in Markham, Ont. These products, which include eye drops and cold medication, pose serious health risks. This follows a previous alert in October 2023. Health Canada emphasizes that selling unauthorized health products in Canada is illegal and may contain high-risk ingredients not listed on the label. Consumers are strongly advised against using these products.
Wall Chargers:
Also on Wednesday, Health Canada recalled various Starmaker USB wall chargers due to electric shock and fire hazards. These include home charger USB-A and USB-C combos and USB-A wall chargers. Approximately 16,000 chargers have been sold in Canada between January 2023 and February 2024. No injuries or incidents have been reported in Canada as of February 29. Health Canada recommends contacting the company for disposal and a refund if you’ve purchased these chargers.
Air Fryers:
On Thursday, Health Canada issued more recalls for Insignia air fryers and ovens due to risks such as overheating, broken or melted handles, and broken glass. Nearly 100,000 units sold in Canada are affected, including digital, analog, and oven air fryers. The company has received reports of incidents, including melted or broken handles and glass breakage, but no injuries have been reported in Canada. Customers are advised to stop using the air fryers and register for the recall or contact Best Buy Canada.
Mushrooms:
Finally, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a recall on Friday for K-Fresh Enoki mushrooms due to potential listeria monocytogenes contamination. The affected 200-gram bags can be identified by the Universal Product Code 4892742010234. Although no illnesses have been reported, customers are urged to discard these mushrooms as they can cause symptoms such as vomiting, fever, and severe headaches.
