Archie Launches Presence App: Automatic Presence Tracking for Offices

October 2, 2026
Archie launches Presence, a new app for Archie’s space management platform that automatically detects when employees are in the office. Presence tracks attendance from a work laptop, with no action required from the employee, to accurately register in-office attendance.

How Presence works
IT deploys Presence across the company’s laptops through standard mobile device management (MDM) software, the same channel typically used for security and OS updates. There’s no separate install for employees to run.
Archie, which earlier this year won TrustRadius’ Top Rated in Workplace Management, offers complete workspace management: desk and meeting room booking, visitor management, and a coworking platform. Presence further broadens Archie’s range. Archie can track presence through WiFi and manual check-in, also, e.g. through door access, however this new app offers much greater accuracy and adherence.
“We wanted to make this as effortless as possible for both employers and employees. Presence is built to run silently in the background: your IT department configures it once across company hardware, and from then on, it just works.”
Maxime Bouillon, Archie CEO
Now, when someone arrives at the office and opens their laptop, Presence immediately checks them in as present. This is through recognizing the building’s IP address and registering attendance on the Archie system. Employees do not need to interact with it. When they leave, they are checked out automatically, timestamped to the last minute they were online.
Presence is an accurate tracker, yet it falls suitably short of over-monitoring. It doesn’t monitor keystrokes or screen activity, nor does it register locations outside the designated office IP range.
The employee presence log feeds into Archie’s workplace analytics, helping leadership understand occupancy and make better informed decisions about real estate and in-office policies. Archie now supports three presence tracking methods:
- Presence app (New)
- Door access integration (manual badge swipe)
- Wi-Fi
Why is employee presence tracking becoming more popular?
The software market behind office usage and presence is growing quickly. The global workforce analytics market is projected to reach $5.5 billion by 2030, according to Grand View Research.
Businesses are increasingly adopting return-to-office and hybrid policies, yet there are still few tools to measure it.
As of September 2026, two-thirds of offices now require a fixed number of in-office days and many of these have started actively measuring attendance compliance. Microsoft, Ernst & Young, and Novo Nordisk are among the companies that have reduced remote-work flexibility in 2026, requiring employees to work on-site more regularly.
Yet the office has changed.
Dedicated desks are less popular, with hot desking and hotel desking becoming more the norm. Hot desking allows employees to claim any available desk on a first-come, first-served basis. Hotel desking requires a reservation in advance.
Under these flexible seating policies, though, headcounts and assigned desks no longer reflect actual office usage. While badge swipes and WiFi tracing can also help track occupancy, these methods are more prone to inaccuracy. If several people arrive together, a single badge swipe won’t register them all. Employees can also game the system – a recently coined term “coffee badging” refers to checking in to register as present, grabbing a coffee, and leaving to finish the day remotely. WiFi tracking is better at face-value, but it requires continuous background refresh and still requires reliance on the employees’ mobile phones.
Archie built Presence to give an accurate, continuous signal of who is in the office and for how long. This directly solves inaccuracies, without leaning into micromanagement.
Presence tracking gives managers visibility into which zones are heavily utilized, which days are busiest, and how successful RTO policies are in practice. Archie’s Presence essentially lets offices see what’s happening on the ground, without asking employees to do anything differently.
How Archie helps large and hybrid companies manage their space
Although the company started a decade ago with its coworking platform, Archie debuted Desks and Rooms as a separate office booking system in response to the growing need for companies to find a better way to manage flexible spaces. Globally, large companies use Archie to help employees reserve their desks, book meeting rooms, and manage their schedules alongside colleagues. Many of Archie’s workplace management customers also use Archie Visitors – its visitor management system that folds into the space booking platform.
Archie integrates with Microsoft Teams, Slack, and Google, as well as door access systems for increased security. Multiple locations can be managed on the same platform, with admins able to customize Archie according to office policies.
After Archie’s successful pilot of Presence with a select group of clients, it’s now ready for a broader release. Presence logs feed into the analytics dashboards, which already track space occupancy and booking data. From there, admins can easily export and analyze attendance data.
