Two new categories have been introduced this year reflecting the evolving priorities for retailers. These are Green Initiative of the Year and International Retailer of the Year.

An impressive line-up of 18 industry leaders comprises the Retail Week Awards judging panel this year, including new judges Carl Cowling, chief executive of WHSmith; Sam Perkins, chief executive of Loaf; Gill Smith, managing director of The Perfume Shop; Jo Whitfield, chief executive of Matalan; Leanne Rothwell, chief executive of Notonthehighstreet; Eve Williams, vice president and general manager of eBay UK; and Peter Wood, chief executive of AllSaints and John Varvatos.

The Retail Week Awards ceremony precedes the UK’s leading retail gathering LIVE: Retail Week x The Grocer on March 12-13 at the Park Plaza, Westminster Bridge, London.

Hanna Jackson, managing director at Retail Week, said: “Despite a tumultuous year – facing rising costs across freight, energy and labour and diminished consumer sentiment – British retailers have strived to perform at their best and drive innovation. This year, we’ve received a record number of entries – an excellent sign of the industry’s commitment to innovation, high standards and dedication. I’ve been hugely impressed by the quality of entries this year, complete with some truly standout heroes, from those on the frontline of retail who remain resilient despite a year of redundancies and growing levels of abuse, to the board-level executives steering the ships.”

Navkinder Sanghera, area vice president, head of UK retail and consumer goods at Salesforce, added: “We’re proud to have sponsored the Retail Week Awards for eight years, which has given us an incredibly privileged position to witness the significant evolution of the retail industry. This year, we are in an AI revolution and generative AI will rapidly enhance the customer experience through accessing real-time insights, as well as enabling retailers to generate marketing assets and understand how customers interact with brands.

“As technology advances, we have seen the standard of entries raise the bar every year. I’m always astounded by the stories of innovation, dedication and true grit that entrants put forward – the judging gets tougher every year. I look forward to finalising the winners and celebrating this fantastic industry and the heroes within it at next year’s Retail Week Awards ceremony.”
