Snoopy Soars
The connection between Snoopy and Scouting dates back to 1974 when Charles M. Schulz introduced Snoopy as a Beagle Scout in the Peanuts comic. Snoopy quickly declared himself “the World Famous Beagle Scout” just two days after his debut as a ‘tenderpaw’ on May 13, 1974.
During the mid-1970s, Snoopy also made appearances in commercials for the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). The BSA’s 1976 Annual Report mentions the release of a television spot titled “Snoopy’s Cub Scout Pack,” featuring Charles Schulz’s beloved characters and promoting Cub Scouting.
In 1979, Charlie Brown took the spotlight in a commercial promoting the Boy Scouts program.
