Mississippi State Entrepreneurship Center Alumnus Receives Google Backing for Startup

Buzzbassador's Success Earns $250,000 Award and Recognition from Google for Startups Black Founders Fund

STARKVILLE, Miss.—Buzzbassador, a software-as-a-service application that automates influencer marketing for consumer brands, has been selected as one of only 24 companies across North America to receive $250,000 and recognition from the Google for Startups Black Founders Fund. The company’s CEO and co-founder, Calvin Waddy, a 2018 alumnus of Mississippi State University’s College of Business, has been identified by Google as a top emerging tech founder.

Buzzbassador, the flagship product of Rocketing Systems, Inc., was founded in 2020 by business students under the guidance of MSU’s Entrepreneurship Center (E-Center). The tech startup now boasts over 140,000 global users and has generated $20 million in sales for more than 450 businesses. Co-founder Shelby Baldwin, a 2019 MSU College of Business graduate, serves as the company’s chief operating officer.

Waddy expressed his gratitude for Google’s investment and belief in their company, viewing it as a testament to the hard work and dedication of his team. He highlighted the significant partnership with Google, which will allow them to access advanced technologies and expertise from the global network.

The success of Buzzbassador has been built upon strong support from investors connected to Starkville, MSU, and the Mississippi State E-Center, including the Bulldog Angel Network. Eric Hill, director of MSU’s E-Center, praised Waddy’s determination and tenacity, which ultimately led to the creation of Buzzbassador. He expressed pride in seeing the company gain recognition from one of the most prominent names in the tech industry and affirmed the E-Center’s commitment to supporting aspiring entrepreneurs like Calvin Waddy.
